Never has the food system been so closely examined in the context of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The Intergovernmental Panel's on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C (2018) calls on transitions in global and regional land use, making direct reference to sustainable intensification in the agriculture sector, ecosystem restoration, and changes towards less resource-intensive diets.
Recent scientific publications have also identified the critical combination of dietary changes alongside production practice improvements to keep the global food system within environmental limits. Others, however, have pointed out major challenges and the potential adverse effects of climate change mitigation policies on food security.
This seminar, organized jointly by the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM) and the World Bank, will discuss latest evidence of relevance to all those engaged in food systems and climate change.
