FLAGSHIP 1 – TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABLE INTENSIFICATION: JUNE – SEPTEMBER 2017 UPDATES

  • Keith Wiebe, co-leader of Cluster 1.1, participated in the ISPC meeting in Rabat, Morocco on September 18-19, and gave a presentation on “Quantitative Foresight Modeling to Inform the CGIAR Research Portfolio”. He also met with officials at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing on September 21-22 to discuss plans for collaborative research on the impacts of China-Africa transfer of agricultural technology.
  • Daniel Mason-D’Croz and Shahnila Dunston provided training on use of the IMPACT model for staff and students at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences during September 18-22.
  • The new volume released by Richard Robertson describes the global-scale crop modeling system behind IMPACT known as “Mink”. Read more>>
  • Nienke Beintema (Program head of Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI)) recently published an article in the Journal on Gender, Agriculture, and Food Security. The article is part of a special issue examining the impact of an AWARD capacity building program aimed at supporting the rise of African women into agricultural research leadership. Nienke presented her findings at a webinar hosted by the CGIAR Gender Platform, see her presentation here.
  • In collaboration with AWARD, ASTI launched a data portal on women in African agricultural research featuring detailed sex-disaggregated data on human resources in agricultural research, and graphic tools for country comparisons and analysis.
