FLAGSHIP 3 – INCLUSIVE VALUE CHAINS AND EFFICIENT TRADE: JUNE – SEPTEMBER 2017 UPDATES

  • The new IFPRI book Agriculture, Development, and the Global Trading System: 2000–2015 edited by Antoine Bouët and Cluster 3.1 leader David Laborde and launched at IFPRI on September 7 is devoted to the complex relationship between the global trading system and food security. The contributors focus on two important elements of the relationship between the trading system and food security: (1) the Doha Development Agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO); and (2) whether food price volatility can be managed through trade instruments. They then offer policy recommendations for how the global trading system can foster food security in the future. Read more>>
  • Simla Tokgoz (IFPRI) and Fahd Majeed (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) presented a poster "Measuring Distortions to Agricultural Incentives for Value Chain Analysis - Evidence from Indian Value Chains" at the XV EAAE Congress in Parma, Italy . The poster presented findings from work led under the PIM-funded activity “Identification of distortions across and within value chains for intervention design.”
  • PIM Value Chains Andes Hub organized a workshop "Latin American experiences on the application of the value chain approach" during the XVII SEPIA biennial held on August 29-31, 2017 in Cajamarca, Peru. Read more>>
  • Over the past decade value chain development has been widely promoted as a catalyst for rural economic growth. As smallholder farmers become increasingly integrated into value chains, how can scholars and development practitioners ensure that the benefits of participation accrue equitably to both women and men? This was the topic of a workshop hosted by Bioversity International and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) with support from PIM at the Tropentag 2017 conference. Read this blog to learn more.
