FLAGSHIP 1 – TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABLE INTENSIFICATION: APRIL – JUNE 2019 UPDATES

Several PIM colleagues participated in the kick-off meeting of the Seed Systems Development of the Netherlands-CGIAR partnership program on 15 – 17 May 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The kick-off meeting is the start of a collaboration between consortia; with NWO-WOTRO (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research); and with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP). The focus of this collaboration is on impact, and how to realize (structural) involvement of farmers and other agri-food actors as well as the back flowing of results into society, in particular policy and practice.

Keith Wiebe attended CGIAR meetings to discuss the Climate Change Special Initiative and to foster collaboration between CGIAR and French research institutes in Montpellier from 8-11 April 2019. He also participated in a meeting on Smallholder Farmer Adaptation to Climate Change at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from 22-24 April, 2019. In May, Keith participated in the Aspen Global Change Institute (AGCI) workshop on Next Generation Food Shock Modeling.

From 12-16 April 2019, David Spielman and Gashaw Abate participated in an inception workshop for the “FARMSTACK: Strengthening Agricultural Advisory Services in Ethiopia through Digital Platforms”, a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and DFID.

Cluster 1.2 colleagues participated in the DLEC Community of Practice meeting on March 20 in Kampala, Uganda. See more in the blog by Kristin Davis and Karin Lion "The research-practitioner divide: Why we are still optimistic"
