Securing tenure rights for forest-dependent communities: A global comparative study

SECURING TENURE RIGHTS FOR FOREST-DEPENDENT COMMUNITIES: A GLOBAL COMPARATIVE STUDY

March 4, 2021

Online seminar

March 9, 2021, 3pm-4.15pm CET

IFAD-CGIAR Good Practice Series on Natural Resource Governance, Planning, and Management.

The Global Comparative Study on Forest Tenure Reform (GCS-Tenure) is a five-year (2014-2019) research project led by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Indonesia, Peru, and Uganda (in-depth studies), with less in-depth comparative studies in Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya and Colombia. In-depth research aimed to understand important experiences of forest tenure reform implementation, including reforms that have fallen short of securing community rights, as well as women’s rights, and where there are opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement for innovation and change in policy and practice.

During this seminar, Anne Larson (GCS-Tenure project lead) and Iliana Monterroso (Scientist and coordinator of the Project’s Latin America research) will present key results and findings of the project and focus on three innovations tested and implemented as part of it:

  • Participatory Prospective Analysis (PPA) and multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Innovative approaches to address implementation gaps
  • South-South exchanges for sharing experience across study countries

Presenters:

Anne Larson, Principal Scientist and Team Leader, Equal Opportunities, Gender, Justice & Tenure, CIFOR

Iliana Monterroso, Scientist, Equity, Gender, Justice & Tenure team, and Co-Coordinator of Gender and Social Inclusion Research, CIFOR

GCS-Tenure Funding Partners: CGIAR, European Commission, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Global Environment Facility (GEF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

This event is targeted to IFAD and CGIAR colleagues and is by invitation only. For more information, please contact Fiona Flintan (f.flintan@cgiar.org)
