- Flagship 5 members from various CGIAR centers participated in the World Bank’s Land and Poverty Conference 2017: Responsible Land Governance—Towards an Evidence-Based Approach, held in Washington on 20-24 March. Flagship co-leader Ruth Meinzen-Dick organized and chaired a policy roundtable Acting to Secure Community and Indigenous Land Rights over the Commons: Opportunities and Challenges (follow the link to see the program and presentations) co-hosted by the International Land Coalition (ILC) and the CGIAR Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM). - Following the World Bank Land and Poverty Conference, members of the Cluster 5.1: Enhancing Tenure Security attended a two-day team meeting on 25-26 March to discuss ongoing research, establish working groups for development of joint products based on common interests and priority areas, reflect upon impact pathways for the cluster, and discuss communication strategies to facilitate shared learning and achieve greater impact.
- The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) kicked off with a project planning meeting on the pilot study to track progress in implementing the African Union Declaration on Land Issues and Challenges in 10 selected African countries. The meeting was held between IFPRI and the African Union Commission/UN-Economic Commission for Africa staff of the Land Policy Initiative on 1-2 March in Addis Ababa. On 27 March, the IFPRI LPI team hosted over 30 specialists on land tenure issues in Africa at IFPRI headquarters in Washington D.C. to introduce the initiative and make linkages with related projects.
